Dr. Jimmy Tran holds a PhD in Computer Science from Toronto Metropolitan University and serves as the Research Technology Officer at the TMU Libraries Collaboratory. His work focuses on robotics and design, with a specialization in interdisciplinary research using drones and 3D modeling technologies. He develops simulations of complex disaster environments to support urban search and rescue operations. Tran oversees training in 3D printing, laser cutting, CNC machining, and related technologies at the Collaboratory. He also advises on project development in areas such as robotics, system design, and technology implementation. At the MLC, Tran consults on fashion and archival studies–related research involving 3D modeling and printing, including projects on sartorial fictions and the centre’s Canadian WWII quilts.
