Graduate Student Intern — Research Support
The Modern Literature and Culture (MLC) Research Centre is seeking an enthusiastic graduate student intern to assist with research tasks at the Centre. The MLC is dedicated to the research of the literary and cultural production in the modernist era (from 1880 to 1940), with a current focus on avant-garde artists and writers and on modernist poetry; research also focuses on the visual and literary culture relating to the experience of World War I. The Centre houses a library and archive, an exhibition space, and a multimedia project room with workstations for research associates, postdoctoral fellows and students.
The Internship involves providing assistance with:
- Researching scholarly articles
- Establishing annotated bibliographies
- Analyzing content
- Preparing summaries
- Editing
- Other day-to-day research and writing tasks
- Some research administration support
Ideally, the intern should exhibit some of the following: outstanding skills in research, writing, and analysis; understanding of MLA citation method; familiarity with bibliographic description; knowledge of or interest in modern literature and art. An interest in books and publishing is an asset.
Although the schedule is flexible, the position requires a commitment of ten hours per week preferably for a full term or 150 hours total. Training will be provided. Interns receive a one-time stipend of $500. Outstanding interns may qualify for additional funding. The internship at the MLC provides an excellent opportunity for students and recent graduates to develop skills in a high-level research centre meant to benefit their careers. Interns may also be considered for upcoming research assistantships. Interns receive an official letter stating their participation in this professional environment, detailing also the skills acquired in the centre.

The MLC is dedicated to the research of the literary and cultural production in the modernist era (from 1880 to 1940), with a current focus on avant-garde artists and writers; research also focuses on the visual and literary culture relating to the experience of World War I. The Centre houses a library and archive, an exhibition space, and a multimedia project room with workstations for research associates, postdoctoral fellows and students.

- Book shelving and carding
- Location of research materials
- Library of Congress cataloguing
- AACR2
- Call number creation
