Are you interested in engaging with people and art or exploring a curatorial experience? Consider becoming a docent at the Modern Literature and Culture (MLC) Research Centre exhibition Threads of History: Repatriating World War II Quilts at Toronto City Hall.
What is a docent?
Docents greet visitors and interact with them in the Toronto City Hall Rotunda, where 20 Canadian war quilts will be exhibited. They provide tours to individual guests. This role offers a chance to connect with like-minded individuals while deepening your understanding of history, women’s labour, and textile through hands-on engagement.
You will also learn about our exhibition Threads of History during Remembrance Week. Featuring 20 repatriated quilts donated to the MLC Archive at TMU—home to the largest collection worldwide—this exhibition tells the stories of the women and children who created them on the home front.
We need docents for 4-hour shifts from November 12 to 15, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM. Brief training with the curators will be provided prior to the exhibition. Volunteers receive a docent certificate.
