The MLC Director Presents: The Top 10 of 2020

Dear friends and colleagues,

This past year was a turbulent and difficult one for many, including for our team at the MLC Research Centre. The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has put to the test our Centre’s motto: putting research into action and transforming society. Yet in these unprecedented times, the MLC has been able to convene, discuss, and come together with our international community in new and unprecedented ways. With this silver lining in mind, I am pleased to present the Top 10 accomplishments of the MLC Research Centre of 2020. I hope you enjoy!

Pandemic Webinar Series

The MLC launched the Pandemic Webinar Series in response to COVID-19 with 37 internationally acclaimed experts and with hundreds of participants monthly from around the globe. Become a contributor!

Our Awesome MLC Team

I am extremely grateful to the MLC’s outstanding executive team: Cintia Cristia, assistant professor, RTA School of Media; research coordinator Cameron MacDonald; and doctoral students Jaclyn Marcus and Jason Wang; to our postdoctoral fellow Ingrid Mida, digital archivists and strategists Warsan Amin, Anna Krentz and Ben Taylor, and new members Priyana Govindarajah, Allison Kinahan, and Vanessa Nim.

Disseminating our Findings Internationally

Collectively, during the 2019-20 academic year, the MLC team published or had accepted for publication 4 monographs, 12 peer-reviewed articles and chapters, and 18 national and international conference papers. We trained 41 HQP. Source: MLC Annual Report 2019-20.

PhD Milestones Reached

Congratulations to two MLC doctoral milestones: Jason Wang defended his doctoral dissertation on urban walking with distinction and Jaclyn Marcus passed her comprehensive exams also with distinction and is now embarking on her SSHRC-supported dissertation on fashion in literature.

Call for Papers for New Post-Pandemic Book
