Modern Literature & Culture Research Centre & Gallery

Remembering the Real Winnie is an interdisciplinary project guest curated by Irene Gammel and Kate Addleman-Frankel that premiered at Ryerson Image Centre on November 5, 2014. The exhibit made the Colebourn Family Archive available to the public for the first time and tells the story of Canadian soldier and veterinarian Harry Colebourn and the bear he adopted at the outset of the war; he named her Winnie after his hometown of Winnipeg, and she would go on to inspire A.A. Milne's beloved Winnie the Pooh books. This touring exhibition is based on a Ryerson team effort involving the MLC Research Centre, the Library, and the Transmedia Zone.
